New York is a City With Over 2,000,000 Rats and The Mayor Has a New Plan to Eradicate Them

by Adam Devine

New York City, NY – Deputy Mayor Meera Joshi and Mayor Eric Adams unveiled new anti-trash technology as part of the city’s ongoing efforts to improve sanitation and reduce the presence of rats. Over the past year, New York City has implemented measures to limit the time trash bags can remain on streets and required food businesses and chain stores to use containers for their waste, targeting the sources most attractive to rodents.

The goal is to eliminate the food and waste that attracts the approximately 2,000,000 rats that infest the city.

Mayor Adams highlighted the introduction of a new garbage collection prototype, a truck designed for automated side loading to service large on-street containers. This prototype, delivered four years ahead of schedule, symbolizes a significant step forward in the city’s trash management, aiming for quicker, cleaner, and smarter garbage collection.

This initiative, described as a “trash revolution” by Mayor Adams, aims to enhance the livability of New York City by removing trash bags and garbage from streets, providing residents with cleaner, more pleasant urban environments.

The mayor did not speak to the growing problem of violent crimes being committed by illegal migrants housed in the city who entered the U.S. during the presidency of Joe Biden.
