Trenton, NJ – Assemblyman Christian Barranco emphasized the urgent need for enhanced cybersecurity measures in New Jersey following a nationwide AT&T outage that disrupted service for tens of thousands of customers. The outage, which began early on February 22, at 3:30 a.m. EST, affected home and cell phone, as well as internet services, particularly hitting hard in the southeast.
Barranco, a Republican from Morris and a member of the Assembly Telecommunications Committee, pointed out that the incident, regardless of whether it was a cyberattack, highlights the vulnerability of telecommunications networks. He advocates for strengthened security to protect against potential cyber threats, ensuring the integrity and resilience of New Jersey’s digital infrastructure.
