NUTLEY, NJ – Police Director Alphonse Petracco and Chief Thomas Strumolo have reported the arrest of two 16-year-old juveniles from Newark, caught in the act of attempting to break into vehicles. The incident occurred approximately at 10:45 pm on Thursday, following a tip from Belleville Police about suspicious activities.

The juveniles, identified through a patrol in Nutley along Ohlson and Ridge Rd, were found trying vehicle doors while wearing ski masks. They face charges of attempted burglary and conspiracy, with one additionally charged for providing a false name. Following their arrest, both were released to their guardians, pending a juvenile court hearing.

This arrest comes in the wake of a recent theft of a Mercedes Benz and an attempted burglary reported in Nutley. Director Petracco praised the swift action of the police force and highlighted ongoing collaboration with neighboring jurisdictions and the NJSP Auto Task Force, which resulted in the recovery of the stolen vehicle and further apprehensions.
