by Breaking Local News Report

SOUTHWICK, MA – David Reed, 59, of Southwick, faces serious charges including involuntary manslaughter and abuse/neglect of an elderly or disabled person, according to the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office. Reed was arraigned last week with bail set at $25,000 for the death of his 79-year-old mother, Karen Reed.

Southwick Police discovered the case of extreme neglect in November 2022 at 83 Klaus Road, following reports of a woman experiencing a medical emergency. Investigators found Karen Reed in a dire state, suggesting she had not been moved from her bed for months, leading to severe wounds and infection.

After being urgently transported to Noble Hospital in Westfield, Karen Reed was later moved to Baystate Medical Center, where she succumbed to her conditions the next day. The charges against David Reed highlight the severe consequences of caretaker neglect.
