Two Charged in Fatal Stabbing Incident in Prince George’s County

HYATTSVILLE, MD – Prince George’s County Police Homicide Unit detectives have charged two men in connection with a deadly stabbing that occurred Wednesday night. The suspects, identified as 34-year-old Alexis Romero of Fairmount Heights and 27-year-old Edward Mejia-Sandoval of Silver Spring, are accused of murdering 23-year-old Lusvin Espana Espana of Hyattsville.

The incident took place on April 10, 2024, around 10:50 pm at a restaurant located in the 6500 block of New Hampshire Avenue. Responding officers discovered Espana suffering from multiple stab wounds; he was transported to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. A second male victim, also stabbed during the incident, was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

Following a prompt response by Hyattsville Division I patrol officers, Romero and Mejia-Sandoval were apprehended shortly after the attack. The preliminary investigation suggests that the stabbing resulted from a dispute, although the victims and suspects were not previously acquainted.

Both suspects face charges of first and second-degree murder and are currently held by the Department of Corrections.
