Glen Burnie Man Arrested for Weapons and Drug Violations After Gunshots Heard

GLEN BURNIE, MD – An 18-year-old Glen Burnie resident, Jayden Derrell Smith, was arrested late Thursday night following a series of events triggered by gunshots in the area of Mystic View Turn and Hidden Brook Drive.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on April 11, 2024, Eastern District police officers patrolling the area heard gunshots and moved toward the sound. Upon spotting Smith walking away from the scene, officers commanded him to stop. Smith attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended. During the arrest, officers discovered approximately 75 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms on him and a loaded 10mm magazine at his feet. Further search revealed an unserialized 10mm Polymer 80 handgun loaded with 27 rounds of ammunition near the location where he was taken into custody.

The seized drugs, handgun, and magazine were collected as evidence. Smith faces charges related to weapons possession and controlled dangerous substances violations. This incident underscores ongoing concerns about gun violence and drug-related activities in the community.
