Bear Man Charged After Threatening Shopper With Knife

by Local News Report

Delaware State Police apprehended 43-year-old Yonghua Xu of Bear, Delaware, for aggravated menacing with a knife on Wednesday morning. Responding to a call on April 17 at approximately 11:06 a.m., authorities arrived at the News Journal Company on 139 Rickey Boulevard in Bear.

Upon their arrival, it was revealed that Xu and the victim, who are colleagues within the same shopping center, had a history of conflicts. On the day of the incident, Xu obstructed the victim’s car with his van as the victim attempted to vacate the parking spot.

A confrontation ensued when the victim exited the vehicle, seeing Xu brandishing an unfolded pocketknife. The victim retreated as Xu approached with the knife, before Xu eventually fled the scene in his van.

However, he reappeared in the parking lot, only to be promptly arrested by troopers without any confrontation.

Following his arrest, Xu was transported to Troop 2, where he faced charges, including possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and aggravated menacing.

An arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court 11 followed, and Xu was released upon posting a $66,000 cash bond. The Delaware State Police provided visual documentation of Xu in an image accompanying the announcement of his arrest as they continue to investigate the case further.
