Bethlehem Man Charged in Video Gambling Voucher Scam

HARRISBURG, PA — Attorney General Michelle Henry and the Pennsylvania State Police have charged a Bethlehem man, Anthony M. Diehl, with orchestrating a fraudulent scheme involving altered video gambling vouchers. Diehl, 31, is accused of modifying gambling vouchers to show inflated winnings and then cashing them at various locations across eastern Pennsylvania.

Diehl was arrested earlier this week and faces charges of felony corrupt organizations and related theft offenses. Following his arraignment, his bail was set at $100,000 unsecured. It is alleged that Diehl used chemicals and printers to alter the vouchers, which he or recruited individuals cashed primarily at convenience stores and gas stations.

Police have recovered over 100 altered vouchers from Diehl’s possession, revealing a scam that reportedly generated thousands of dollars across multiple counties. Attorney General Henry described the operation as an elaborate and predatory scheme exploiting unregulated video gambling devices.

Colonel Christopher Paris, Commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police, emphasized the collaborative effort with the Attorney General’s Office to combat such fraudulent activities. The investigation into the scheme is still ongoing, with suspicions that the redeemed vouchers involve combined payouts exceeding $20,000.

This case is currently being prosecuted by the Office of Attorney General’s Organized Crime/Financial Crimes Sections. Diehl maintains his innocence until proven guilty.
