SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY – A timely response by Suffolk County Police Department’s Marine Bureau officers saved two individuals after their boat began to sink near Northport. The incident occurred yesterday approximately one mile north of Eatons Neck Lighthouse.

Officers Erik Johnson and Timothy Dillon, aboard Marine Bravo, were dispatched to the scene at 1:55 p.m. following a distress call about a boat in trouble. Upon arrival, they discovered a 1997 Bayliner Trophy boat with its cabin and stern partially submerged.

With the assistance of the Town of Huntington Harbor Master, the officers managed to remove water from the sinking vessel and subsequently towed it to safety at the Soundview boat ramp.

Fortunately, both the operator and the passenger of the boat were unharmed. The Suffolk County Police Department has been commended for their quick action and coordination in preventing a potential tragedy at sea.
