Pair Arrested for Felony Drug Offenses After Newark Traffic Stop

by Breaking Local News Report

NEWARK, DE – Delaware State Police arrested Brandon Wright, 42, and Jaclyn Ortega, 38, both from Elkton, Maryland, for felony drug offenses following a traffic incident last Tuesday evening.

The events unfolded on July 23 at about 6:25 p.m. when a trooper noticed a silver Dodge Avenger making an improper lane change near Pulaski Highway and the Delaware/Maryland state line. After entering and quickly exiting a Wawa parking lot, the vehicle sped off, leading the trooper to initiate a traffic stop in a nearby Walgreens parking lot.

Upon stopping, Wright exited the vehicle and failed to comply with orders to return to the car, resulting in his immediate arrest. During the encounter, the trooper spotted a bag of what appeared to be crack cocaine on the floorboard near the passenger, Jaclyn Ortega, who also refused to identify herself and was subsequently arrested.

A search of the vehicle yielded approximately 14.57 grams of crack cocaine and a used glass pipe. Both suspects were charged and taken to Troop 2 for processing. Ortega was additionally wanted on an existing warrant from Justice of the Peace Court 11.
