OXFORD, MA — Michael Escolas is set to be charged with motor vehicular manslaughter — OUI, theft of a vehicle, and other offenses, according to the Norfolk County District Attorney. Escolas, who is being held on a $25,000 bail, is accused of stealing a Jeep Cherokee during a Kenny Chesney concert at Gillette Stadium on Saturday.

The theft led to a fatal crash that killed a 10-year-old boy and injured five members of his family. They were stopped at a traffic light on Route 1 near the intersection with Route 495 when Escolas, driving the stolen vehicle, collided with their car and three other vehicles at the intersection.

The boy, whose name has not been released, was among seven people rushed to area hospitals following the incident. The extent of the injuries to the other family members is currently unknown.

Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrisey praised the response efforts at the chaotic scene. “Dealing with this chaotic scene and evacuating seven people to area hospitals required the help and participation of many partner agencies,” he stated.

He expressed his gratitude to the Plainville Police, Massachusetts State Police, and several local Fire and Ambulance services, including those from North Attleboro, Wrentham, Foxboro, Mansfield, and Franklin. Morrisey also extended his sincere condolences to the bereaved family.
