Wilkes-Barre Police Arrest Fugitive Wanted for Sexual Assault in Michigan

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — A man wanted for sexual assault in Michigan was apprehended by Wilkes-Barre police officers during a routine patrol on August 24, 2024.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:58 p.m. when officers on patrol inside the Intermodal Transportation Center at 47 South Washington Street observed William Powers, 41, of Monroe, Michigan, smoking a cigarette, an activity prohibited inside the facility. Upon further investigation, officers discovered that Powers had an active arrest warrant issued by the State of Michigan for sexual assault.

Powers was taken into custody and transported to the Wilkes-Barre City Police Headquarters before being transferred to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility (LCCF) to await extradition to Michigan.

The Wilkes-Barre City Police Department remains committed to public safety and the apprehension of fugitives wanted for serious offenses.
