16-year-old charged with attempted murder in Germantown shooting

GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A 16-year-old from Clarksburg has been arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder in connection with a shooting that occurred on March 13, 2024, in Germantown, the Montgomery County Department of Police announced Wednesday.

Jaiden Ochieng allegedly shot at a 15-year-old male victim in the 19300 block of Archdale Road after chasing him on foot. The incident occurred around 2:59 p.m., shortly after the victim got off a school bus. The victim was not injured in the shooting, but police recovered two shell casings near Trophy Court and Archdale Road.

According to investigators, Ochieng arrived at the scene in a stolen Hyundai. After identifying him as the suspect, officers obtained a warrant for his arrest, charging him with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, use of a firearm in a violent felony, and theft-related offenses.

Ochieng was apprehended on September 6 in Germantown, in the 13300 block of Copper Ridge Road. During the arrest, officers recovered a loaded handgun that had been reported stolen out of Clinton, Maryland.
