BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Two men have been charged with manslaughter following a brutal assault in a supermarket parking lot that resulted in the death of a 38-year-old man, police said.

Manuel Perez, 49, and Francisco Corocoj, 25, both of 180 West 135th Street in Manhattan, have been charged with first-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. The charges stem from an incident that took place on September 18, 2024, in the parking lot of a Shop Rite supermarket at 1080 McDonald Avenue, within the confines of the 66th Precinct.

According to police, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the two victims, a 42-year-old man and a 38-year-old man, were sleeping in the parking lot when they were attacked by two individuals armed with metal pipes and a baseball bat. The assailants repeatedly struck the victims, causing severe injuries.

The 42-year-old victim sustained cuts and bruises to his head and body and was transported to Maimonides Medical Center, where he was treated and released in stable condition. The 38-year-old victim, who suffered internal bleeding, was also taken to Maimonides, where he was later pronounced dead on October 2. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide.

The NYPD is now seeking public assistance in locating the individuals wanted in connection with this case, as the investigation remains ongoing.
