ELLENBURG, N.Y. — A motorist was shot in the back on Halloween afternoon after stopping to remove debris from the roadway in the town of Ellenburg, New York State Police reported.
The incident occurred around 4:34 p.m. on October 31, when the driver, traveling south on Plank Road near Alder Bend Road, noticed debris obstructing the road. The individual pulled over to the shoulder and exited the vehicle to clear the obstruction. While attempting to remove the debris, the driver was shot from an unknown direction by an unidentified person.
The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the University of Vermont Health Network at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (UVM at CVPH) for treatment. State Police believe this is an isolated incident, though no suspects have been identified at this time.
Authorities have advised drivers in the area to avoid stopping for debris and to contact law enforcement if they encounter obstacles on the road. State Police are actively investigating the shooting and are urging anyone with information related to the incident to call 518-563-3761.
