GOSHEN, N.Y. — A New Windsor man has been indicted on multiple charges, including attempted murder, in connection with a violent domestic incident earlier this month, Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced Tuesday.
Khiyan Bascus, 22, was arraigned in Orange County Court on charges of attempted murder in the second degree, attempted assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree, and two counts of tampering with physical evidence. He is being held at the Orange County Jail on $125,000 cash bail, a $225,000 fully secured bond, or a $750,000 partially secured bond.
Prosecutors allege that on the morning of January 2, Bascus attacked a sleeping relative at a residence in New Windsor, stabbing the victim multiple times in the face and chest using multiple knives. The victim required surgery for their injuries. After the attack, Bascus fled the scene and was later located by police in the backyard of a nearby home with blood on his hands. Investigators recovered a knife and clothing they believe were used in the attack.
District Attorney Hoovler commended the New Windsor Police Department and New York State Police for their investigation and swift apprehension of the suspect. “The unprovoked violence allegedly perpetrated in this case is terrifying,” Hoovler said in a statement.
The case will next return to court for a conference on March 25.
