A student at North Stafford High School is facing criminal charges after assaulting a school resource officer (SRO) during a fight on campus Monday afternoon, the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office announced.

At approximately 2:00 p.m., the deputy assigned to the school was monitoring dismissal when a large altercation broke out among students. As the officer and school staff attempted to break up the fight, both the deputy and a staff member were assaulted during the intervention.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, no injuries were reported in the incident. The involved parties were eventually separated, and the situation was brought under control.

One student has been charged with assault and battery on law enforcement. Additional criminal complaints for other students involved in the fight are pending as the investigation continues.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office thanked Stafford County Public Schools for their cooperation and emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe school environment as the academic year nears its conclusion.
