GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A man was struck and killed while crossing Watkins Mill Road early Tuesday morning, prompting a road closure and investigation by Montgomery County Police.
Emergency crews responded at approximately 5:31 a.m. to the area of Watkins Mill Road and Route 355 after receiving reports of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle. When officers arrived, they found the man unresponsive in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts by both the driver and medics.
Police said the driver of a silver 2018 Toyota Camry remained at the scene and attempted to assist the pedestrian before first responders arrived.
The road remains closed in both directions from northbound MD-355 to I-270 while the Collision Reconstruction Unit investigates. Drivers are being advised to avoid the area due to significant traffic delays.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of family. Officials said additional details will be provided as the investigation progresses.
