STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – An off-duty NYPD officer was arrested late Friday night and charged with petit larceny in Staten Island, the department confirmed.

Frank Callaghan, 38, was taken into custody at approximately 11:08 p.m. within the confines of the NYPD’s 121st Precinct. He is currently assigned to the department as a police officer.

According to police, the arrest stemmed from an incident that led to a criminal charge of petit larceny, a misdemeanor offense under New York State law. Specific details of the alleged theft have not been disclosed by authorities.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident, and the officer was not performing official duties at the time of the alleged offense.
