Chesapeake police searching for missing woman with medical conditions

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Authorities are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a 68-year-old woman last seen late Friday night in Chesapeake.

Doreathea Cowell was reported missing after she was last seen around 11:15 p.m. Friday in the 1900 block of Robert Hall Boulevard. According to Chesapeake Police, Cowell has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and diabetes and does not have access to her required medication.

Cowell is described as a Black female, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing about 262 pounds with brown eyes. At the time she was last seen, she was wearing a white t-shirt and dark pants. While her natural hair color is gray, police say she has since shaved her head bald.

Investigators noted that Cowell is known to frequent the Military Highway area. Police have not released any information indicating where she may have been headed or whether foul play is suspected.

“Doreathea has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and diabetes and requires medication that she does not have with her,” police said in a statement.

Chesapeake Police are urging anyone who has seen Cowell or who may have information about her whereabouts to contact the department at (757) 382-6161, call 911, or reach out through the Crime Line.
