SALEM, VA — A Virginia man struck it big on his second try, winning $100,000 on a scratch-off ticket at a Salem convenience store.

Ramon Esparza purchased two Cash in a Flash tickets from an EZ Mart on West Fourth Street. After the first ticket came up empty, the second revealed a six-figure top prize.

Lottery officials said the winning ticket is the first top prize claimed in the Cash in a Flash game, leaving two remaining.

The game offers prizes ranging from $5 up to $100,000, with odds of 1 in 1,020,000 to win the top prize.

Esparza plans to share the winnings with his family.

Virginia Lottery proceeds support K-12 education, including more than $24 million distributed to Roanoke City schools last fiscal year.
