DC man arrested over year after $15K burglary at Bladensburg Road business

WASHINGTON, DC – More than a year after a business on Bladensburg Road was burglarized and stripped of electronics worth over $15,000, police have made an arrest in the case.

Gerald Butler, 54, of Northeast D.C., was taken into custody Thursday on a D.C. Superior Court warrant and charged with Burglary Two in connection with the August 10, 2024 break-in.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the burglary occurred around 5:40 a.m. at a commercial property in the 3100 block of Bladensburg Road, NE. Investigators say the suspect accessed the business using keys from a lockbox outside the building. Once inside, he stole laptops, cellphones, and other items before fleeing the scene.

The stolen property was valued at more than $15,000. No details were released on how investigators identified Butler as the suspect, but MPD confirmed his arrest on December 11.

Butler is now facing formal charges, and the case remains under review by prosecutors.
