Maryland man charged with murdering 80-year-old mother inside Cheverly home
CHEVERLY, MD — A domestic dispute inside a Cheverly home ended in tragedy Tuesday morning after police say a son fatally stabbed his 80-year-old mother during an argument.
Prince George’s County police identified the suspect as 54-year-old Darrick Alston of Cheverly.
Authorities said Alston is charged with first- and second-degree murder in the killing of his mother, 80-year-old Brenda Wheeler.
The stabbing happened May 12 around 9:10 a.m. inside a residence in the 6200 block of Monroe Street.
According to investigators, officers with the Cheverly Police Department responded to the home for a reported domestic dispute.
When officers entered the residence, they discovered Wheeler suffering from stab wounds.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said officers took Alston into custody inside the home shortly after arriving.
The preliminary investigation determined the stabbing occurred during an argument between the mother and son, according to authorities.
Alston is currently being held by the Department of Corrections without bond.
The Prince George’s County Police Department Homicide Unit is continuing the investigation.
