Crack cocaine bust erupts near Nubian Square as Roxbury woman arrested in street drug probe

Boston police say officers spotted an alleged hand to hand drug deal before making the arrest

BOSTON, Mass. — A Roxbury drug investigation near Nubian Square ended with a woman under arrest Monday evening after Boston police said officers witnessed an apparent crack cocaine transaction on Washington Street.

Members of the Boston Police Department’s Neighborhood Engagement Safety Team conducted the investigation at approximately 5:30 p.m. near 2371 Washington St. as part of ongoing enforcement efforts targeting drug activity and neighborhood quality-of-life complaints.

According to investigators, officers observed an apparent drug transaction between the suspect and another individual during surveillance operations in the area.

Police said the second individual involved in the encounter was issued a summons to appear in Roxbury District Court on a charge of possession of Class B drugs.

Officers then approached the suspect near the Nubian Square Bus Station and took her into custody.

Authorities identified the suspect as 45-year-old Alicia Mitchell of Roxbury.

During the booking process, police said officers recovered 25 small plastic bags containing a substance believed to be crack cocaine along with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Mitchell is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges including possession with intent to distribute Class B drugs, possession with intent to distribute Class B drugs as a subsequent offense, and distribution of Class B drugs.

The arrest was part of ongoing enforcement operations conducted by the department’s Neighborhood Engagement Safety Team in targeted areas across Boston.
