Dating app meet-up turns violent in Mount Pleasant robbery arrest

Washington, DC — A man was arrested early Wednesday after allegedly robbing someone he had invited to his Mount Pleasant home following a connection made through a dating app, police said.

At approximately 4:29 a.m., officers from the Third District responded to the 3400 block of Brown Street, Northwest, for a reported robbery inside a private residence. According to investigators, the suspect and victim had arranged to meet through an online dating platform. During the encounter, a dispute broke out, and the suspect forcibly took the victim’s belongings before chasing the victim out of the residence.

Responding officers found the suspect at the scene and took him into custody. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Aaron Ashe Jr. of Northwest DC, was arrested and charged with Robbery (Snatch).

No additional injuries or weapons were reported, and the investigation is ongoing. Police did not disclose what specific property was taken during the incident.

Authorities continue to urge residents to exercise caution when meeting individuals through online platforms and to prioritize public or secure locations for initial meetings.
