Dog recovered, suspect arrested after armed robbery in DC

WASHINGTON, DC — A 43-year-old man was arrested and a dog was recovered following an armed robbery in Northwest DC that stemmed from a dispute between the suspect and the victim, police said Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Friday, January 3, at approximately 7:30 p.m., inside a residence in the 1200 block of M Street NW. According to police, the suspect brandished a handgun during a verbal altercation, stole the victim’s belongings, including a dog, and fled the scene.

The crime was reported early Saturday morning, and responding officers quickly located the suspect. Police recovered the stolen property, including the dog, and arrested the suspect.

Jeffrey Birth, 43, of Northwest DC, was charged with armed robbery (gun). Police noted that the suspect and the victim were known to each other, and the robbery occurred during a dispute.
