Downed pole and wires close Route 79 in both directions in Marlboro

MARLBORO TWP, NJ – A downed pole and wires forced the closure of Route 79 in both directions early Saturday north of County Route 4/Vanderburg Road.

The incident was reported by the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s Traffic Operations Center South at 12:38 a.m. and updated at 12:51 a.m.

Officials said all northbound and southbound lanes were closed as crews responded to the scene.

No additional information was immediately available regarding the cause of the downed pole or restoration time.

Route 79 completely shut down

The closure affected both directions of traffic, halting movement along the stretch near Vanderburg Road in Marlboro Township.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while emergency and utility crews worked to clear the scene.

Traffic conditions remained under DOT monitoring overnight.

Crews continue response efforts

As of early morning, the closure was still in effect pending completion of repair and removal operations.

DOT officials have not provided an estimated time for reopening.
