Teen busted months after gunpoint carjacking attempt in Northwest DC

WASHINGTON, DC — An 18-year-old Southeast man has been arrested months after four suspects allegedly confronted a driver at gunpoint in Northwest and attempted to steal his vehicle, police said.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:57 p.m. on Oct. 1 in the 1000 block of Emerson Street Northwest. According to investigators, the victim was retrieving items from his vehicle when four individuals approached him.

The suspects pointed a handgun at the victim, demanded his keys and assaulted him, authorities said. After failing to obtain the keys, the group took the victim’s cellphone and fled the scene.

On Wednesday, pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant, 18-year-old Stanley Simmons of Southeast was taken into custody and charged with Armed Carjacking.

The case remains under investigation. Police are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for violent crimes in the District.
