A 29-year-old man died after an officer discovered him wounded in a Southwest DC median, prompting a homicide investigation into a nearby shooting.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A homicide investigation is underway after a 29-year-old man died from gunshot wounds following a shooting in Southwest Washington, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

At approximately 9:38 p.m. on July 4, a First District officer was flagged down in the 100 block of M Street, Southwest, for a report of a man down.

The officer found an adult male lying in the median suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS transported the victim to a local hospital.

Detectives later determined the shooting occurred in the 1300 block of Canal Street, Southwest.

Despite lifesaving efforts, the victim died from his injuries.

Police identified the victim as 29-year-old Joshua Primus of Southwest Washington.

No arrests have been announced.
