Man Killed in Collision With Tractor Trailer in Capitol Heights

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, MD – The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal collision that occurred in Capitol Heights on Thursday evening. The deceased driver is 49-year-old Ronnell Lamont James of Upper Marlboro.

On October 29, 2020, at approximately 8:00 pm, officers responded to the 600 block of Hampton Park Boulevard for a crash involving an SUV and a tractor trailer. James, who was driving the SUV, was pronounced dead on the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed that at the time of the collision, the tractor trailer was being backed up on Hampton Park Boulevard and was positioned across the roadway. James was travelling southbound on Hampton Park Boulevard. For reasons that are now under investigation, James struck the tractor trailer causing his SUV to become wedged underneath the tractor trailer.
