NEW JERSEY — Friday morning commuters faced significant traffic disruptions across several major roadways, with delays, closures, and ongoing incidents reported throughout the state.
As of 8:18 a.m., a vehicle fire on the southbound I-295 ramp from Exit 29 (US 30) in Barrington has closed the ramp, though all mainline lanes remain open. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution.
Emergency construction on NJ-18 northbound in East Brunswick Township near CR-527/Old Bridge Turnpike continues to cause disruptions. One right lane remains closed for repairs, as of 7:25 a.m.
In South Brunswick Township, all southbound lanes of US-1 remain closed at New Road following a crash investigation that began at 3:51 a.m.
Additionally, a water main break on US-1&9/Tonnelle Avenue southbound near 91st Street in North Bergen Township has led to the closure of one right lane since 1:54 a.m.
Major delays are being reported on the Garden State Parkway northbound, with a three-mile backup stretching from Exit 150 in Bloomfield to Exit 153A in Clifton. Southbound traffic on the Parkway is also delayed, with a four-mile backup from north of Exit 136 in Cranford to north of the Colonia Service Area in Woodbridge Township.
Travelers using the George Washington Bridge are experiencing 25-minute travel times on both the upper and lower levels eastbound from the New Jersey side in Fort Lee to the Alexander Hamilton Bridge.
Heavy traffic is reported on several other routes, including:
- NJ-17 northbound from south of I-80 in Lodi to Passaic Street in Rochelle Park, with minimal travel delays.
- I-280 eastbound from East Orange to Newark, with travel times of under five minutes.
- NJ-3 eastbound in Clifton, with a 15-20 minute delay between Grove Street and Bloomfield Avenue.
