ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PA – The Allegheny County Police Department has announced the passing of K9 Eli, a valued member of the Elizabeth Township Police Department, who died following a demonstration today.

K9 Eli had been an active service member since 2016, contributing to hundreds of apprehensions and seizures and impacting thousands of lives throughout his career.

Officer Novacek, Eli’s handler, and the entire department are mourning the loss of this dedicated K9, who was not only a protector but also a beloved figure in community outreach programs. The police department has arranged for Eli to be escorted from Valley Veterinary Hospital to Gilbert’s Funeral Home in Boston, PA at 1:15 PM today. Community members are invited to honor Eli by lining Rt 48 as he is transported.

A formal memorial service for K9 Eli will be scheduled later this week, with details to be announced, allowing the community and fellow officers to pay their respects.
