Sayreville man accused of trying to run over cops during wild police chase

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. – A Sayreville man is facing multiple attempted murder charges after authorities say he tried to run down several police officers and rammed his car into marked patrol vehicles during a violent confrontation that followed a traffic stop.

According to police, 32-year-old Rennard Roseburgh was charged with three counts of attempted murder, eight counts of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and eluding. He was taken to the Middlesex County Jail pending a court appearance.

The incident began when Sayreville Police stopped Roseburgh for a traffic violation. Officials said he sped away from the stop, dragging an officer in the process, before escaping the scene. A warrant was issued for his arrest and East Brunswick Police were alerted.

Later, East Brunswick Patrolman Michael Manning spotted Roseburgh’s vehicle on Old Bridge Turnpike. With assistance from other officers, a traffic stop was initiated. Police say Roseburgh initially complied, then suddenly accelerated toward Patrolman Manning, Patrolman Colin White, and Lieutenant Thomas Cassidy, forcing all three to jump out of the way to avoid being struck.

A pursuit followed, during which Roseburgh allegedly rammed his car into several occupied patrol units before officers were able to stop and arrest him.

East Brunswick Police Chief Frank LoSacco praised the officers involved, saying their quick actions likely prevented serious injury or death. “Roseburgh’s outrageous actions created a big danger to the public, and what he did could have resulted in the deaths of these brave officers,” LoSacco said.

In a firm statement, LoSacco emphasized that his department will not tolerate violent resistance or flight from lawful authority, warning that anyone who attempts to flee or fight officers will face immediate arrest and aggressive prosecution.

Police say no officers were seriously injured in the incident.

Roseburgh faces multiple charges after allegedly using his car as a weapon and ramming police vehicles during a high-speed confrontation in East Brunswick.
