Teen ditches gun and heroin while running from police in Dover
DOVER, Del. — A Wilmington man was arrested after police say he fled from officers and discarded a loaded gun and heroin during a foot chase in Dover.
Ahmeer Ledbetter, 19, was taken into custody on March 20 after officers responded to reports of a person armed with a gun in the 100 block of South New Street.
Police said when officers attempted to make contact, Ledbetter ran but was quickly caught after a short pursuit.
During the chase, investigators say he threw away a loaded .40 caliber handgun and approximately 7.17 grams of heroin, which were later recovered.
Ledbetter was charged with multiple offenses, including possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, possession with intent to deliver heroin, multiple firearm possession charges, resisting arrest, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and tampering with physical evidence.
He was committed to SCI on $183,000 cash bond.
