Two young lives lost in broad daylight shooting on DC street
Washington, DC — A daytime shooting in Northeast Washington claimed the lives of two juveniles, including a 12-year-old boy, after gunfire erupted along Kenilworth Avenue.
Officers responded around 3:27 p.m. Tuesday to the 700 block of Kenilworth Avenue, Northeast, where they found two juvenile males suffering from gunshot wounds.
One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The second, identified as 12-year-old Mhilo Young, was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries but later died.
Police identified the other victim as 14-year-old Tyale Coates, both from Northeast Washington.
The Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Case Squad is leading the investigation. No suspect information has been released.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact police at (202) 727-9099 or submit anonymous tips by texting 50411.
Officials said a reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for each victim, bringing the total possible reward to $50,000.
