WASHINGTON, D.C. — Two suspects have been arrested in connection with a Southeast D.C. shooting that left a man with critical injuries last week, according to law enforcement officials.

The shooting occurred on the afternoon of Nov. 8, when Seventh District officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 700 block of Chesapeake Street SE. Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for life-threatening injuries and later stabilized, police said.

Following an investigation, detectives identified two suspects linked to the shooting. On Wednesday, Nov. 13, officers arrested 32-year-old Vance McIlwain of Northwest D.C. and 31-year-old Kenneth Johnson of Southeast D.C.

Both men have been charged with assault with intent to kill, according to the United States Attorney’s Office. The arrests come as part of an ongoing effort to address violent crime in the area and bring those responsible to justice.

The case remains under investigation as officials work to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
