BROOKLYN, NY – Tyrique Rushing, a 25-year-old resident of the Bronx, was sentenced on Monday to 18 years in prison and 15 years of post-release supervision by Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Danny Chun. This follows Rushing’s guilty plea to first-degree attempted murder, first-degree criminal sexual act, and first-degree burglary on April 24.
In 2018, Rushing, with co-defendants Lance Jyrkenin and Shirnel Sobers, had forcibly entered a Marine Park home occupied by a retired police lieutenant and his wife. The intruders bound the elderly couple and subjected them to physical assault.
This ordeal was repeated when the same individuals broke into the home again on October 8, 2018. During the second intrusion, Rushing sexually assaulted the female resident while her husband was injured with slashes to his head and face.
The defendants fled with cash, a set of speakers, a Bank of America card, and the couple’s Honda Civic.
Jyrkinen and Sobers had previously pleaded guilty to charges related to the incident and were sentenced to 12 and nine years in prison, respectively. Rushing is now required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.
