WILLINGBORO TWP, NJ – Kameelah Kareem, a 43-year-old former substitute teacher from Willingboro Township, has been sentenced to five years in state prison for engaging in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old male student. The announcement was made by Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw.

The sentence was imposed last week in Superior Court in Mount Holly by the Hon. Christopher J. Garrenger. Kareem pled guilty earlier this year to Sexual Assault (Second Degree).

Authorities initiated an investigation in early 2021 after receiving information about a possible inappropriate relationship between Kareem and the student during the 2019-2020 school year. Kareem had been employed as a substitute teacher at the Alternative School at Bookbinder in Willingboro between November 2019 and March 2020.

The investigation found that Kareem had multiple interactions with the student outside the school environment. Specific details have been withheld to protect the identity of the student involved.
