One Dead in Single-Vehicle Crash in Middletown

by Jeff Jones

MIDDLETOWN, DE — A man was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-vehicle crash early this morning in Middletown, according to Delaware State Police.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:19 a.m. when a black 2019 Chrysler 300 was traveling westbound on Blackbird Landing Road, east of State Route 13. The vehicle failed to maintain its lane and veered off the roadway, colliding with a dirt berm in a grassy drainage ditch.

The car then hit a utility pole, struck the driveway culvert for a residence, and went airborne, hitting another utility pole. The Chrysler ultimately came to rest in the drainage ditch west of the second utility pole and became engulfed in fire.

The name of the deceased driver is being withheld pending notification of family and relatives. The investigation is ongoing.
