Fugitive Wanted for Murder Surrenders to Utica Police With Lawyer

UTICA, NY – Tyrell Brown, 30, from Utica, turned himself in to the Utica Police Department on November 26th, 2023. His attorney accompanied him in response to an outstanding arrest warrant for second-degree murder. The charge relates to the fatal shooting of Kwamae Smith on November 11th, 2023.

Utica Police, collaborating with county, state, and federal authorities, had been searching for Brown since the homicide. Authorities expressed relief that Brown surrendered without any further incidents.

Following his surrender, Brown faced booking on two counts: second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
