Newark Man Receives 12-Year Sentence for Assault

NEWARK, NJ – The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office announced the sentencing of Nathaniel G. Yanez, 23, of Newark, formerly of Dover, N.J., for multiple counts of sexual assault. On December 8, 2023, Judge Stephen J. Taylor imposed a 12-year sentence in New Jersey State Prison, with 85% parole ineligibility under the No Early Release Act. Additionally, Yanez is mandated to register under Megan’s Law and will be under Parole Supervision for Life. He is prohibited from contacting the three victims.

On April 27, 2023, Yanez pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree Sexual Assault and one count of third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He was arrested in March 2022 and detained at the Morris County Correctional Facility.

The charges relate to incidents involving two victims at the Hilton Garden Inn in Rockaway and a residence in Dover. Another victim was identified from videos found on Yanez’s phone. Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the Rockaway Township Police Department, the Dover Township Police Department, and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office’s Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit in securing the conviction.
