WASHINGTON, DC – Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch Major Case Squad is currently investigating a fatal shooting incident in Southeast, which claimed the life of a young child. The incident took place on Friday, at around 9:10 PM, in the 2300 block of Hartford Street.
Responding to reports of gunshots, Seventh District officers found a 3-year-old girl at a nearby fire station on the 2400 block of Irving Street, suffering from a gunshot wound. She was quickly given emergency aid by MPD officers and DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel. The child, identified as Ty’ah Settles of Southeast, DC, was airlifted to a local hospital by United States Park Police, where she was pronounced dead despite all efforts to save her.
Investigations indicate that Ty’ah was inside a vehicle at the time she was shot. The investigation is ongoing as detectives work to uncover further details surrounding the tragic event.
