Gunshots Force Lockdown at Schenectady Schools

Schenectady, NY – Police officers from the Schenectady Police Department responded to a report of an altercation and shots fired on Tuesday afternoon, May 7. Authorities spoke with individuals in the vicinity, set up a perimeter, and began a search for the suspect.

As a precaution, Schenectady City School District schools were put on secure status, although no direct threats had been made.

Throughout the day and night, the Schenectady Police, with the aid of various law enforcement agencies, including the Special Operations Squad and State Police, searched for the suspect. At 9:41 pm, a suspect was found within the search area, detained, and taken in for questioning, with a handgun being recovered during the operation.

Crane Street and surrounding roads will gradually reopen as the investigation continues. Further details will be provided as they emerge.
