New York State Police Announce Death of K9 Cop Lane

by Breaking Local News Report

ALBANY, N.Y. — The New York State Police announced the unexpected death of Canine Lane, a longtime member of the department, in a statement issued Wednesday. Lane had served with his handler, BDU Chief Technical Sergeant David I. Turner Jr., since January 2014.

Canine Lane was named in honor of Trooper John J. Lane, who died in the line of duty on May 13, 1928. Lane’s contributions to the force were recognized as part of the New York State Police’s long tradition of using canines in public safety operations.

The department did not provide further details regarding the circumstances of Canine Lane’s passing.
