Utica man arrested for attempted assault with a baseball bat

UTICA, N.Y. — On the evening of September 28, 2024, at approximately 8:25 p.m., Utica Police responded to a report of a man attempting to strike people with a baseball bat on the 700 block of Court Street.

Upon arrival, officers interviewed several individuals who directed them to the suspect. The suspect, identified as Dennis Leavitt, 69, of Utica, was detained without incident. Police located the baseball bat in Leavitt’s vehicle nearby.

Leavitt was transported to the Utica Police Department and has been charged with offenses related to the incident. Further details on the specific charges have not yet been released.
