Teen arrested after armed carjacking of moped in Northwest D.C.

WASHINGTON — Police have arrested a 17-year-old male in connection with an armed carjacking that took place Thursday morning in Northwest Washington, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. The incident occurred on October 24, 2024, at approximately 11:15 a.m. in the 4500 block of New Hampshire Avenue, Northwest.

Officers from the Fourth District responded to reports of a carjacking and found that multiple suspects had forced a man off his moped at gunpoint and taken his property. The suspects then fled the scene on the victim’s moped and additional mopeds they had brought with them, police said.

A short time later, officers tracked the suspects and the stolen moped to the 6400 block of Eastern Avenue, Northeast. When officers attempted to apprehend them, the suspects attempted to escape, but one was captured. The other suspects managed to flee on mopeds and remain at large.

The apprehended suspect, a 17-year-old male from Northeast D.C., has been charged with Armed Carjacking, Fleeing from Law Enforcement on a Motor Vehicle, No Permit, Reckless Driving, and Receiving Stolen Property.

Police continue to search for the remaining suspects involved in the incident. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Metropolitan Police Department.
