WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 29-year-old man was killed in a stabbing inside the DC Jail earlier this month, prompting a homicide investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department, officials confirmed Tuesday.
On May 1, at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers from the First District responded to the Central Detention Facility in the 1900 block of D Street, Southeast, after a report of a stabbing inside the jail.
When officers arrived, they found an adult male unresponsive and suffering from multiple stab wounds. DC Fire and EMS personnel responded but found no signs of life. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was identified as Carlos Shelley, a resident of Southeast, D.C. Police did not disclose what unit or area of the jail the stabbing occurred in or any potential suspects.
The Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch is leading the investigation. Authorities are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
