SALISBURY, Md. — Authorities are investigating a fire that damaged a storage building Tuesday night behind the Travelodge on North Salisbury Boulevard. The fire, deemed incendiary in nature, resulted in an estimated $35,000 in damages.
According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the blaze was reported at approximately 8:19 p.m. at 2625 North Salisbury Blvd. A witness discovered the fire, which originated inside a prefabricated storage structure on the property.
The Salisbury Fire Department responded with 18 firefighters, who brought the fire under control within 20 minutes. No injuries were reported, and the building was not equipped with smoke detectors or a sprinkler system.
Investigators determined that two juveniles were involved in the incident. While no arrests have been made, referrals to the Department of Juvenile Services are pending.
“The preliminary cause has been ruled incendiary,” officials stated in a public notice.
Officials estimate $35K in damages
The fire did not spread beyond the storage unit, and no other structures on the property were affected. It remains unclear whether the juveniles intentionally started the fire or how they gained access to the area.
The investigation remains active. Authorities have not released the names or ages of those involved due to their juvenile status.
