Police sergeant arrested in disturbing Carroll County case

GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A 20-year veteran of the Montgomery County Department of Police was arrested Thursday by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office on multiple counts of possession of child pornography.

Sergeant Mark Burhoe was taken into custody on July 10 and has been suspended without pay, effective immediately, pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.

The charges stem from an investigation being handled by Carroll County authorities. All media inquiries regarding the criminal case are being directed to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

Montgomery County Police confirmed an internal investigation will also be conducted in accordance with departmental policies.

The department stated that it takes the charges seriously and remains committed to transparency and maintaining public trust throughout the legal process.
