Virginia Man Faces Multiple Charges After Drugged Driving Crash

by Breaking Local News Report

SOUTH STAFFORD, VA—A Spotsylvania man was detained after a series of events that led to multiple charges being filed against him. The incident occurred on July 18 at 3:14 PM in the Argyle Heights subdivision of South Stafford.

Deputies D.S. Jett and C.S. Harding of the Stafford Sheriff’s Office were responding to a call about an unknown medical emergency when they discovered 46-year-old Russell McFadden II passed out in a black Chevy Impala, blocking a resident’s driveway. Upon awakening, McFadden exhibited signs of drug use and became increasingly uncooperative and hostile.

Despite being ordered to exit the vehicle, McFadden attempted to flee by driving down the driveway, only to be stopped by surrounding trees. After a brief attempt to escape, he returned to a state of unresponsiveness. Deputies were forced to breach the vehicle’s windows and physically extract him, a process during which McFadden resisted arrest and required the use of OC spray.

McFadden was eventually subdued and, due to signs of a possible overdose, was transported by ambulance to a hospital for evaluation. He faces charges including DUI second offense within 5 to 10 years, possession of a controlled substance, two counts of assault on law enforcement, obstruction, driving with a revoked license, eluding law enforcement, and having expired registration.

Following medical evaluation, McFadden was transferred to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he is being held without bond.
